Brett Freund currently lives in Minneapolis where he was a 2018 McKnight Ceramic Artist Fellow and the recipient of a 2015 Jerome Ceramic Artists Project Grant. He received his MFA in 2011 and was a fellow artist at Baltimore Clayworks shortly after. His work explores 3d printing, mold making, and faceted cluster forms.
When working I think about my own definitions of preciousness and value. Is what I’m after rare like a diamond, does it take time to grow like a crystal or is it a symbol that references a status or identity? Most importantly, how can I scrutinize hierarchies without undermining the possibility of growing in my craft?
